This Order makes it an offence to enter, without a permit, into a specially protected area designated under section 7(2) of the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967 (being an area of outstanding scientific interest for purposes of the Agreed Measures for the Conservation of Antarctic Fauna and Flora). It also makes provision with respect to permits authorising entry into such areas.

  My Lords, at a convenient moment after 3.30 this afternoon my noble friend Lord Skelmersdale will, with the leave of the House, repeat a Statement that is to be made in another place on the Cleveland Child Abuse Report. It may be for the convenience of the House if I announce that the Report stage of the Housing (Scotland) Bill will be adjourned at approximately 7 p.m.for approximately one hour and that during that adjournment the Antarctic Treaty (Agreed Measures) (No.2) Order 1988 and the Education (Assisted Places) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 will be taken.
