UK Offence Report

Corrections and complaints

A wrong entry is worth more to fix than a missing one is to add. 23,878 classifications made by rule will contain mistakes, and the fastest way to find one is a reader who knows the provision better than the rule does.

Asking for a correction

Email enquiries@assizedata.co.uk with “Correction” in the subject line. What makes a correction quick to act on:

What happens then

A correction is made in the dataset the pages are rendered from, so it holds when the report is next rebuilt from the corpus instead of being patched on one page and lost. Where a correction changes something this report says in its own voice — a headline figure, or a finding — the change is recorded on the page that carries it rather than made quietly.

Some reports of a wrong page are not corrections but disagreements about what a provision means. Those are worth having, and they are answered, but the honest answer is sometimes that the words bear both readings and a court has not settled it; where that happens the page is marked as undetermined rather than switched to the other reading.

Complaining about something else

If something other than a factual error has gone wrong, the company's complaints procedure covers Assize Data Ltd and all of its trading names, including Assize Research. A complaint is acknowledged within 5 working days, with a full response within 20 working days, and if you are still unhappy you can ask for the company's director to review it.
