Explanatory note

These Regulations revoke the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) (Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1972, as amended, and re-enact those provisions with the following differences: entries are required to be made in respect of the testing and inspection of the pilot's hoist; entries are required to be made in respect of the drill, check and test of the ship's steering gear; the requirements on the skipper to read over to an officer an entry relating to an officer's incompetence or serious negligence now includes a requirement to state the reason if the entry is not read over.
