This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to those of the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998. This Order amends the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 to protect workers who disclose certain kinds of information from being dismissed or penalised as a result of the disclosure.

  My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 24. The amendment deals with protected disclosures by police officers. The purpose of this new clause, with consequential amendments revoking provisions in the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 and the Public Interest Disclosure (Northern Ireland) Order 1998 in Schedule 3 is to afford protection to police officers who make protected disclosures.
