This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to those of the Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Rear Seat Belts by Children) Act 1988 and extends only to Northern Ireland. The Order requires rear seat belts to be worn by children travelling in the rear of motor vehicles to which such seat belts are fitted. The Department of the Environment is empowered to make exceptions to the requirement by regulations.
